AfroSwissters REMAIN at Zurich Film Festival
3 October 2026 · KINOKONI
What if the life you built is not the life you would choose today?
REMAIN by AfroSwissters comes to the Zurich Film Festival with a public conversation inspired by CLARISSA, Arie and Chuko Esiri's contemporary reimagining of Mrs Dalloway, set in Lagos.
Through the film's themes of love, friendship, desire, class, sexuality and regret, our panel asks what it really means to choose your own life when family, culture, gender, status and history are all shaping the options in front of you.
Set against contemporary Lagos and viewed through African and diaspora perspectives, the discussion moves beyond the film into bigger questions of ambition, belonging, reinvention and freedom.
Who gets to change their mind? Who gets to start again? And how much of the life we live is actually ours to choose?
The panel
Serafina Andrew, photographer and visual artist, Zurich. Working in images and archives, on who holds the camera when we are the ones being looked at.
Dr. Emma Mavodza, scholar and anthropologist, SNSF Ambizione Principal Investigator at the University of Bern. Zimbabwean-born, PhD from Wits, researching migration, gender and care.
Amina Charles, moderator. Entrepreneur, Venture Philanthropy & Strategic Partnerships at AfroSwissters, founder of Nurture Postnatal Care and Texture Theory.
About REMAIN
REMAIN is the cultural reflection format of AfroSwissters. We don't leave the moment an experience ends. After the art, we slow down, speak, and stay: noticing what was seen and felt, sharing perspectives, and leaving with people rather than just an opinion. Previous editions have been held at photoSCHWEIZ, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Kunsthaus Zürich and VOLTA Art Fair in Basel.
