An Evening of Music, Community, and Cultural Dialogue
AfroSwissters (represented by Safiatou Barry) and SankofaRisin’ (represented and founded by Tabea Weber) warmly invite you to a special community evening at Theater Basel. Together we’ll attend the family opera La Cenerentola and conclude the night with an exclusive Meet & Greet with the Brazilian mezzo-soprano Joyce Bastos.
The evening is designed to bring people together across cultures and generations — to listen, to connect, and to celebrate the shared language of music.
About Joyce Bastos
Born in São Paulo, Brazil, Joyce Bastos gracefully moves between classical music and Brazilian popular music. She studied both disciplines at the Escola de Música do Estado de São Paulo and was a scholarship holder with the State Youth Choir of São Paulo.
Her artistic journey has taken her to several international festivals and masterclasses, including the Festival Casa de Mateus in Portugal, where she worked with María Cristina Kiehr, Jacques Ogg, Enrico Gatti, and Fábio D’Onofrio. She further honed her craft through courses with Anne Sofie von Otter, Adam Nielsen, and Mary Birnbaum (Juilliard School, New York).
In 2025, Joyce completed her Bachelor’s degree in vocal performance at the Hochschule für Musik Basel under Isolde Siebert, and has since begun her Master’s studies with a focus on classical singing and a minor in jazz. Currently based in Basel, she continues to build a multifaceted career that bridges classical music, jazz, and the sounds of her Brazilian heritage.
She is a member of Coletivo Raízes do Samba, the duo Joyce Bastos & Marcelo Figueiredo, and the project Joyce Bastos & Lukas Gernet, performing regularly across Switzerland and neighboring countries. At Theater Basel, Joyce makes her debut as Tisbe in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, in collaboration with OperAvenir.
