REMAIN at Museum Rietberg · African Art & Conversation
14 November 2026 · Museum Rietberg
How are objects from Africa presented at Museum Rietberg? What can they tell us about their history and context?
Join AfroSwissters for another REMAIN, a guided visit and conversation with Dr. Michaela Oberhofer, Curator for the Arts of Africa and Oceania.
The tour will focus on art from different regions of West and Central Africa, including artistic and ritual practices and the people who created the works. It will also address the history of the collection and its colonial context, questions of ownership and restitution, and contemporary artistic and critical approaches to this shared heritage.
The tour offers an opportunity to ask questions, exchange perspectives and discuss the works together. All participants are welcome to contribute to the conversation.
No art background is needed. Come with curiosity and a willingness to discover and ask questions.
And afterwards, we REMAIN.
Following the tour, we will spend time among AfroSwissters until 17:00. Our informal afterspace offers room to reflect on what we have encountered, continue conversations and get to know one another.
What moved us? What surprised us? Which questions stay with us? Share, listen or simply enjoy being together.
