Questions, answered.
01What is AfroSwissters?
A Swiss non-profit association in Zürich, led by Afro-descendant women and open to everyone, built on four pillars: Connect, Heal, Grow and Thrive.
02Who can join?
Membership is for Afro-descendant women: it is a safe space for them. Everyone who shares our mission and values and respects our guidelines is welcome to engage with us, at our events, in our programmes and in collaborations, in Switzerland and beyond. Each event page says who the format is for.
·I'm new to Switzerland, or my residence status is uncertain — can I still come?
Yes. Being part of AfroSwissters does not depend on your papers, your permit or how long you’ve been here. Whether you arrived recently, are seeking asylum, are in transition or simply still finding your feet, you are welcome at our events. To be honest about our limits: AfroSwissters is run by volunteers. We are not a legal, migration, asylum, housing or social service, and we can’t take on casework. What we do is build tools, knowledge and infrastructure for these spaces, and sometimes we also meet in person. Our Resources page points to organisations that provide the specialised support we can’t.
03How do I become a member?
Choose your rate, fill in the short membership form and pay online at the secure Wix checkout. Go to the membership page →
04What does membership cost?
There are three annual rates: reduced CHF 100, regular CHF 150 and supporter CHF 200. The membership is the same at every rate. Your contribution helps sustain our spaces, cultural experiences, retreats, workshops and organisational work. If the fee is a barrier, write to us.
05In which languages do you operate?
Our network spans mainly German-speaking Switzerland, includes French-speaking Switzerland, and we hope to grow in Italian-speaking Switzerland too. This site is available in English, German, French and Italian. Events are held mostly in English.
06Where do AfroSwissters gatherings take place?
AfroSwissters is rooted in Zürich and Switzerland, with gatherings mostly taking place in and around Zürich, alongside retreats and cultural experiences in other Swiss locations such as Schwyz, Basel and beyond. Some formats also take place online so that our network can connect across borders. While our base is Swiss, our outlook is global.
07Do I have to be a member to attend events?
Not always. Many AfroSwissters events are open to everyone. Some formats, especially circles, retreats and member gatherings, may be reserved for members, and members receive priority access where places are limited.
08How can I support without joining?
You can donate, partner with us, volunteer, or attend and share our events.
