Photographer and creative director, AtlantaWorks in portraiture. Photography, she said, let her speak before she had the words.
kourtneyiman.com ↗On 7 February 2026, REMAIN went to photoSCHWEIZ. We met for an apéro at The Artistic, HeadsQuarter’s space on Stockerstrasse, walked to the Kongresshaus together and joined a FORUM conversation with photographer Kourtney Iman King and photoSCHWEIZ lead curator Christin Khaukha.

Not rushing in, not splitting the day: we shared space and conversation first, then entered the exhibition as a group.
HeadsQuarter sponsored our apéro and hosted us at The Artistic, their space at Stockerstrasse 33.
From Stockerstrasse to the Kongresshaus, friends and family included.

The conversation was part of Black Art Matters at photoSCHWEIZ.
Kourtney introduced herself through relationships rather than a CV: a daughter, a sister, a friend, a woman, an artist, a “girl’s girl”.
She said she arrived here through prayer, her ancestors, her family, friends back home, community, and herself.
“I didn’t know how to put the words behind what I was doing or why I mattered.”
Photography gave her a way to speak before the language was there. Portraiture became a way to listen.
“I don’t think we like to give ourselves flowers when they’re deserved. I did the work.”

To HeadsQuarter, for sponsoring our apéro and welcoming us at The Artistic. To photoSCHWEIZ and Christin Khaukha, to Marieta Kiptalam and Black Art Matters, and to Kourtney Iman King, for an honest conversation.
And to everyone who came, stayed and kept talking at the print table.
