About the event

AfroSwissters is honored to participate in the international conference Otro espectro recorre el mundo / Another Spectre is Haunting the World: Practices, Politics, and Aesthetics of Slavery in Latin America and the Caribbean”.

This transdisciplinary colloquium brings together everyone interested: From scholars, activists, and artists to examine how the memory of slavery continues to shape our societies today. At a time of rising global extremism and historical denialism, the conference offers a vital space for reflection on violence, memory, and resistance.

AfroSwissters will contribute to the Roundtable on Afro-descendant Activism in Switzerland and the Legacy of Slavery, highlighting contemporary struggles, migration stories, and community-building practices within the Swiss context.

Our session (on 26 September 2025, 17:30 at UZH Sala RAA-G-01) includes:

  • Tallulah Patricia Bär – introducing AfroSwissters’ mission, community, and vision.

  • Lys Silva – sharing her personal migration and resilience journey, bridging global post-colonial realities with lived experience in Switzerland.
