When we attend a cultural engagement—be it a theatrical performance or a museum exhibition—we often arrive as observers and consumers. We witness the work, applaud the craft, and depart. However, the true value of art lies in its ability to provoke thought long after the curtain falls.

Kourtney Iman King: Black Art Matters

The Artist: An award-winning fine arts photographer (M.F.A. from SCAD Atlanta). Her work focuses on the "Southern Black Femme" identity and the power of the Black Female Gaze.
The Work: Featured at photoSCHWEIZ 2026. Her project "Picture Me Sold" challenges historical imagery of Black female bodies, reclaiming autonomy and dignity through traditional portraiture.
The Impact: At the photoSCHWEIZ FORUM talk, AfroSwissters together with King led a critical inquiry into how Black bodies have been "sold" or stereotyped in visual culture and how photography can be used as an act of self-definition and reclaiming one's narrative.

REMAIN at Schauspielhaus

Ta-Nia: (WHAT YOU’LL FIND) ON THE WAY TO BECOMING

The Duo: Ta-Nia consists of New York-based artists Talia Paulette Oliveras and Nia Farrell. They are multi-hyphenate theater-makers (writers, directors, performers) who studied at NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
The Mission: Their work is dedicated to creating "unapologetically Black spaces of liberation" in an anti-Black society. They describe themselves as Mundane Afrofuturists, using ritual to bridge the gap between dreams and reality.
The Work: This performance is a somatic ritual. Set at a recurring 30th birthday party for a character named Gabbi, it follows a group of friends trying to escape a loop through a night at a club.
The Experience: It is designed as a "Black and queer communal space" involving loud music, flashing lights, and intense sensory moments. The audience is invited to dress in the theme: "Dreaming of Fabulousness – Legends Edition."
The Impact: It explores transformation and collective futures. For the REMAIN format, this work was a perfect match because the Schauspielhaus created a "Decompression Space" to process themes of substance use, panic attacks, and rebirth, and AfroSwissters could join in and engage with the Schauspielhaus' internal resources.
